Matte motorcycle suit
For the past few years, a trend has also appeared in the motorcycle world – MATT. Matte suits are associated with being clean, well-kept, and luxurious. For example, in upholstery this trend has reached the point where almost all car leathers are matte.
However, there is a major difference in the function that leather used in motorcycle suits must fulfill. The key difference is that the leather in a suit touches our body directly (unless you wear thermal base layers) — so besides the outer layer, the inner layer must also breathe and “work”. That’s why perforations are so commonly used.
Matte leather is difficult to maintain. Many factors such as dust, sweat, and inappropriate conditioning products containing oils/fats make a suit become shiny after a short time. Why does this happen?
Matte leather resembles the Tatra mountains. The uneven “peaks” in the finish layer cause light to refract rather than reflect directly. This creates the matte effect.
Improper care, such as polishing the surface, smooths those peaks. Additionally, micro-particles clog the sharp pores in the finish layer and cause light reflection, giving the leather a “slick” feel.
Over time, the Tatras start to resemble table mountains — in our case, that means glossy leather.
How to remove the shine:
The best approach is to clean and condition a now-shiny suit that used to be matte with a product that contains no oils/fats. Xzone leather milk works идеально in this case. It restores the leather’s natural coating — matte stays matte, and gloss stays glossy. Unfortunately, lovers of a perfect matte finish need to repeat these treatments fairly often and regularly so the pores don’t lose their “mountain-like” character.
Among our services, we also offer leather matting — full or spot treatment. So if your motorcycle suit has been shiny from the start and you’re looking for a solution — we can help!
