Is repaired motorcycle clothing safe?
The answer is: it depends.
So what can it depend on?
On the materials used, the technology, knowledge of motorcycle garment construction, and the quality of the workmanship.
Using ordinary thread finished with a single stitch guarantees failure and gives a false sense of safety. Using the cheapest leather on the market (or a substitute) and sewing a “patch” over a hole is another example—such a repair may improve the look, but in the event of a crash it will largely not do its job.
When a repair is done using good-quality leather, with machines dedicated to working with leather, and with top-quality additional materials—the repaired clothing can absolutely be safe. Another important factor is understanding motorcycle garment construction and its practical use. (Not everyone needs to know what a protector or a slider is and what it’s for.) This is especially important when altering sizes—if done incorrectly, protectors can end up in the wrong places.
